GAME SUMMARY

Originally a game mode in ARK: Survival Evolved, Ark: Survival of the Fittest is a fast paced arena deathmatch battle where up to 100 players can battle it out with each other in a battle royal across a huge open wilderness map where they must try to survive both the arena's elements and their rival combatants out for blood in a last man standing fight. The game combines elements of first person shooter deathmatch gameplay with survival style MMO mechanics to bring a fantastic, action packed free to play Multiplayer Online Survival Arena game.

GAMEPLAY OVERVIEW

The game at heart is an arena based deathmatch where players must try to be the last person alive, either letting the elements, rival players or themselves kill off their opponents. With features from survival type MMOs players will have to utilize the resources available from the arena in order to create armor, tools, weapons, food and more to try and survive this deadly competition. Accelerated time means players can quickly harvest and craft items, ranging from hunting bows, poisons, cooked food, crafting tools and even firearms and ammo.

The battle modes consists of individual or group based team deathmatches where players are able to group up in Tribes of up to 6 players, depending on the selected game mode, which allows players to work together cooperatively in order to defeat the other challengers and the island of ARK.

TAMING

A big feature in the game is the ability to tame the natural fauna of the island: dinosaurs. Ranging from small harmless herbivores, larger pack cat-like predators, to even huge stegosaurus and T-Rex, players can mount many of these creatures and control them to fight alongside them in battle. When a creature is tamed by a player the creature then has the same tribe flag as its owner so other players can quickly identify it from the still wild beasts of the island.

CRAFTING

As with many survival games players can acquire resources from all areas of the island, wood and thatch from trees, metal, stone and flint from rock, hide and meat from dinosaurs; by gathering these items they can then use their crafting menu to make different tools and supplies as they slowly work up their technology level to create even greater gear. When players enter the map they begin with no items or clothes, landing near a starting platform that is littered with starter packs consisting of basic tools, weapons, food and more to help give players a headstart, it can be stroke of fortune for many if they are the first to pick up a weapon and then fight the other players at the platform, whereas others prefer to take their chances heading straight into the wilds and craft these basic items on their own.

BATTLING THE ISLAND

It isn't enough to simply try and create firearms and ammo, as the time progresses players will need food, shelter, warmth and other resources to help them survive the changing elements of the ARK. Players will have to keep themselves fed and hydrated, warm when it gets cold, tend to their sustained wounds and more. Throughout the course of the game there are random Evolution Events that have drastic effects on the map and players, such as Acid Rain or Extreme Heat that forces players to seek shelter or they will slowly lose life, Survivor Reveal that for the duration of the event shines a big beam of light down from the sky onto each remaining opponent so other players can find each other. As well as this the walls of the arena are forever shrinking, the walls killing anyone still in the area when it shrinks, making the size of the arena smaller and forcing players into more frequent engagements.
